Water Damage and Fire Restoration in Penetanguishene and Tiny Township
Penetanguishene climbs uphill from the long, sheltered water of Penetang Bay, with Main Street running down to the waterfront and older homes on the streets around it. Past the town line, Tiny Township’s cottage roads follow the open Georgian Bay shore, and many of those properties rely on a private well and septic system. DKI Simcoe Muskoka handles water damage restoration, fire and smoke cleanup, storm repairs, mould remediation, asbestos abatement and contents recovery across Penetang and Tiny, with IICRC-trained technicians, DKI Canada resources and a 24/7 emergency line.
Snowbelt Winters and Storms Off the Open Bay
Northwest winds pick up moisture over Georgian Bay and unload it on Penetanguishene as lake-effect snow. That weight sits on older roofs, ice builds along the eaves, and when the thaw comes, meltwater heads downhill toward foundations. Most of Tiny’s beaches face west across Nottawasaga Bay, straight into summer squalls and autumn gales. On a rural lot, one power failure stops the well pump and the sump pump together. Day or night, in any month, our emergency line is answered.
Nothing wet gets torn out until it has been photographed and measured, because that record is what your insurance claim will rest on.
Water & Flood Damage Restoration
On a well, leaks often start at the pressure tank or treatment equipment; at a cottage, at a line that froze in the crawlspace. We remove the water, then keep equipment running until readings show the structure is dry.
Fire & Smoke Damage Restoration
Wood stoves and fireplaces are common in older homes and cottages here, and creosote in a neglected flue can ignite. We remove soot, char and the smoke odour held in pine panelling and upholstery, then rebuild.
Storm, Wind, and Impact Damage Restoration
Gales off Nottawasaga Bay bring pines and cedars down on cottage roofs along the Tiny beaches, and deep snow strains older roofs in town. We tarp, board up, clear debris and carry out the permanent repairs.
Asbestos & Mould Remediation
A septic backup or a damp crawlspace gives mould and bacteria room to grow. We contain and remove contaminated materials, and test older plaster, siding and insulation for asbestos before anything is demolished.
Contents Restoration & Cleaning
Photo albums, quilts, furniture and keepsakes handed down through generations are packed out with an itemized inventory, cleaned and deodorized off site, stored safely and brought back once the house is ready.
Old Town Homes, Bay Frontage and Tiny Township Cottages
Penetanguishene, along with Lafontaine and Perkinsfield in Tiny, has deep francophone roots, and many homes here have been added onto over the decades as families grew. Where an addition meets the original house, roof valleys and foundation joints become common entry points for water. Bayfront homes deal with wind and changing lake levels, and Tiny cottages range from uninsulated summer camps to winterized year-round houses. We work for full-time residents, cottage families, landlords, Main Street business owners and the adjusters handling their claims.
Before rebuilding begins, you will know what is being replaced, why, and roughly how long each stage should take.
How We Work for Penetanguishene and Tiny Township Owners
A Longer Drive, Stated Plainly
Penetang sits north of Midland, further from our Oro-Medonte shop than Barrie or Orillia. We tell you that up front and get a crew moving right after your call.
Planned Around Cottage Access
Tell us about seasonal roads, gates, unplowed lanes or a key left with a neighbour, and the crew comes equipped for how the property is reached.
Your Eyes on Site
When you live hours from the cottage, your adjuster and you both get photographs, moisture readings and costs as the work goes along.
Owned by Rick Rimkey
DKI Simcoe Muskoka is owned by Rick Rimkey and continues the R&F Construction business, so the same company handles both the cleanup and the rebuild.
Penetanguishene, the Tiny Beaches and the Villages Between
Our Penetang service covers the Main Street hill and downtown, the waterfront along Penetang Bay and the area out toward Discovery Harbour, and continues through Lafontaine, Perkinsfield, Balm Beach, Wymbolwood Beach, Thunder Beach, the roads north toward Awenda and neighbouring Midland.

Restoration Questions from Penetang and Tiny Township Owners
Practical answers for owners of homes in town and cottages along the Tiny shore.
Do you come out to Penetanguishene and the Tiny Township beaches?
Yes. Penetanguishene and Tiny are in our service area, reached from our Oro-Medonte shop by way of Midland. It is a longer drive than Barrie or Orillia, and we say so. When you phone, let us know whether the main water shut-off has been turned off, whether anyone is on site, and anything the crew should know about getting in.
Our septic backed up into the basement. Is that something you clean up?
Yes. Sewage is contaminated water, not an ordinary leak. We extract it, remove soaked porous materials such as drywall, carpet and insulation, then disinfect and dry the structure. The tank or leaching bed needs a licensed septic contractor, so have it pumped or inspected before the system goes back into use.
Does insurance cover a frozen pipe at a closed-up cottage?
Often, but many policies set conditions for seasonal or unoccupied buildings, such as keeping the heat on, having the property checked regularly, or shutting off and draining the water. If those conditions were not met, the claim may be affected. Check the wording with your broker, and call us so the damage is documented and dried while the claim is reviewed.
Floodwater reached our well. Is the water safe while you dry the house?
Not until it is tested. Floodwater around a wellhead can carry bacteria into the supply, so drink and cook with bottled water. Ask the local health unit about a sample; Ontario tests private well water for bacteria at no charge. Meanwhile we handle the house: extraction, removal of soaked materials, disinfection and drying, alongside your well and septic contractors.
